As of September 2022, over 516 million copies of the One Piece manga series have been sold, making it the best-selling manga series in history. This surpasses Naruto and Bleach combined and is more than other popular fiction works like Batman, Harry Potter and more. It is one of the, if not the, longest running manga series ever. In light of this monumental accomplishment, let’s revisit what makes this manga series so special.
One Piece was first brought to life by the genius Eiichiro Oda in 1997. From jump, readers were drawn into a lovable and ambitious protagonist, an awesome storyline and interesting characters. The story begins with a little boy named Luffy, who daringly stabs himself to prove he is worthy of becoming a pirate and sailing with the mightiest of them. Years later, he finally sails off and declares his mission to become king of the pirates aka the strongest in the world.
What makes me love this series so much are the unforgettable events, some tear-jerking, some teeth-clenching, some heart-moving. I think one of the best moments in One Piece is during Enies Lobby. Sogeking shoots down a flag representing The World Government, Luffy…
